On beachside blocks in the salt-laden coastal air, we use galvanised or a durable, corrosion-resistant grade of steel for the H-posts and any fixings, sized to the wall height and any load above it. We are careful to call this corrosion-resistant rather than rust-proof, because no steel is immune to a marine environment forever, but a properly specified galvanised post is built to hold up well.
